Best of 2010 - Music

For me 2010 was a year of listening to mostly sun-soaked, fuzzy electronic beats that make you crave bathing suits and warm summer nights. This was of course the big new genre of the year known as “Chillwave”. Not surprisingly 99% of the music I enjoyed this year was electronic. Including a lot of electro-pop, upbeat danceable stuff, IDM and genre-bending artists. Choosing only albums wouldn’t be fair as many of my favorite songs this year weren’t relased on albums. So I am listing both my favorite albums of the year and favorite songs.

bestof10

2010 is coming to an end. Not that it was a bad year, but it did have its ups and downs. I shared a large part of it with my favorite person in the world and had some amazing experiences with her that I will never forget. I also had some great times with friends and family, visited some incredible places, worked with some awesome people and learned some very important lessons. It makes me sad looking back at this year and thinking these times are over, but I will keep these memories with me always and look at 2011 as a new chapter in my life.

In the next week or so I will be posting my thoughts and memories of 2010 including travel, music, food and more. Stay tuned.

This past weekend some friends and I took a road trip down to LA for HARD. Here are a couple videos from the event. Sorry for the distortion, my little Flip camera can’t handle the volume.

Pogo Does Dexter

Wow, if you are a fan of Dexter or electronic music you will love this. This is a song done by an artist named Pogo made entirely of samples from Dexter. Surprisingly the song itself is totally listenable and I would like it even if I weren’t a fan of Dexter.

My Two Cents On iTunes 10

iTunes 10

I hear a lot of people complaining about the UI changes in the new iTunes 10. To be honest as far as the UI changes go I think people get a little too nit-picky, very quick to criticize any little change made. I am not really sure how the colors of the menu icons really effects my iTunes experience all that much. What I (and I am sure many people) REALLY think they dropped the ball on is not offering a subscription based service. You ask any Rdio user and their iTunes usage has drastically dropped after signing up. But if Apple offered a service with a monthly fee that included music, movies, tv all in one place I would seriously consider it. I hope Apple isn’t getting to be one of those companies that is getting their fingers into so many pies it can’t keep up with the little guys.

On the Road Again

Earlier this week I left Salt Lake City again and headed back to Cleveland to stay with my girlfriend who has one more semester of school left here. This is my second trip to the now Lebronless Cleveland. I am rather impartial to the city, but I must say there are some good eats here. The first thing we did upon my arrival is head directly from the airport to Happy Dog. Damn good stuff.

Last night we went to see Delorean and Glasser play at The Grog Shop. The crowd was disappointingly sparse, but the show was as good as I had hoped it would be.

Later this month Yaya and I will be headed to Peru for a couple weeks. It will be my first time to South America and I am really excited for the food, Machu Picchu and a little jaunt in the Amazon for a few days. Just crossing my fingers I don’t get Malaria or bitten by one of these.

Had I heard it when it first came out this album would have made it on my Best of ‘09 list for sure.

Washed Out

I have really been enjoying the music of Washed Out lately. It reminds me a lot of Neon Indian but a bit less kitchy, and a little more sentimental. Makes me want to go lay on a beach somewhere.
