Tokyo Recap

Tokyo Train Station

At the beginning of this month I left Shanghai for Tokyo for a nine day adventure with my friend Eli Smith of So Sweet Records. Tokyo was the last stop on his tour through Asia and Australia and he invited me to DJ at show with him at a club called Trump Room. I had never been to Japan so obviously I jumped at the chance.

The trip ended up being lots of long days and long nights. Trying to fit in as much of what Tokyo has to offer in eight nights/nine days can prove to be exhausting. One of my favorite things we did was spending a day at Oedo Onsen in Obaiba (wikipedia link for those of you who don’t know what an onsen is).

Big thanks to Tomo of So Sweet Japan for letting us crash in your tiny little apartment!

Above is a video from the show at Trump Room. I will post more as they are uploaded. Check out more photos on Flickr.

A Nice Set Shanghai

I recently participated in a show called A Nice Set that just had an exhibition here in Shanghai over the weekend. Ten local artists were selected to customize a pair of Aerial7 headphones along with a pair of slipmats. The above is my design for the slipmats. I will hopefully get the chance to take some photos of the actual completed mats. For the headphones I thought it would be cool to try to somehow make them look like they were melting. I wanted the color to be very basic a minimal with drips running down and off the headphones. To get this effect we melted a bunch of glue sticks and dripped it down the phones. In the beginning the looked really cool, but unfortunately after a few days the large drips deflated and they kind of ended up looking like a big wad of bubblegum. It wasn’t the exact look I was going for but they turned out okay. It was a fun project though and the event had a good turnout.

New Home for KP

Jellymon Office

Since coming back to Shanghai a couple months ago I have been looking for an office space to work out of. My friends over at Jellymon had a bit of extra space so I thought it would be the perfect creative atmosphere I was looking for. At the beginning of this week I moved in and have settled nicely. I am also helping them out with their new website which should be up soon, so keep your eye out. I also recommend checking out their work. They have done some really nice stuff.
