Headed South

Tomorrow Yaya and I have a long day of travel. We are headed to Peru for a couple weeks for a bit of a Summer journey before she has to go back to school. We have a pretty loosely planned itinerary, but at the moment the plan is to head to Lima for a couple days… then on to Cusco to see Machu Picchu… and then to the Amazon for some jungle adventures and to hopefully avoid any run-ins with big ass bugs, snakes or crocodiles.

I will be leaving my laptop at home, but should have access to internet occasionally to post photos and update on the happenings. Though I am looking forward to being ‘unplugged’ for a while.

Summer Minimix

Here is a little minimix I put together while working on a set I played a couple weeks ago. It’s just barely over ten minutes long but packed full of bangers.

On the Road Again

Earlier this week I left Salt Lake City again and headed back to Cleveland to stay with my girlfriend who has one more semester of school left here. This is my second trip to the now Lebronless Cleveland. I am rather impartial to the city, but I must say there are some good eats here. The first thing we did upon my arrival is head directly from the airport to Happy Dog. Damn good stuff.

Last night we went to see Delorean and Glasser play at The Grog Shop. The crowd was disappointingly sparse, but the show was as good as I had hoped it would be.

Later this month Yaya and I will be headed to Peru for a couple weeks. It will be my first time to South America and I am really excited for the food, Machu Picchu and a little jaunt in the Amazon for a few days. Just crossing my fingers I don’t get Malaria or bitten by one of these.

The Holga D - Holga Digtal Camera looks like it could be pretty awesome. It’s only a concept at the moment, but I am excited to one day hopefully get my hands on one. I wonder what the proce point will be on one of these.

It has been quite some time since I have posted in my other blog TheDopeFiend. It’s pretty hard for me to keep up with it while traveling, but I have just launched a new version which will hopefully make it easier for me to keep fresh content constantly updated. Bookmark it and spread it around.

Washed Out

I have really been enjoying the music of Washed Out lately. It reminds me a lot of Neon Indian but a bit less kitchy, and a little more sentimental. Makes me want to go lay on a beach somewhere.

A Message From the Founder

I was looking through my YouTube inbox today and came across a couple of messages that I found pretty funny to look back at.

awesome video of china!

hi there. my name is steve. i’m one of the founders of youtube. i just watched your video of your china travels. i thought it was well put together and, all together, a very good video filled with good content.

i hope you don’t mind me featuring it on the front page…

Here was my response…

I don’t mind at all! Thank you for the compliments, and thank you for featuring me! I think YouTube is great!

And the back from Steve…

it was a good video!

thanks for the compliment on YouTube. because we don’t have any marketing department, we really rely on our users to get the word out there. it would be great if you could tell your friends & family (and anyone you meet on the street today!!) about us. heh.

thanks!

That Time Again

Packed Bags

I can’t really count the amount of times in the past few years I have packed my bags and moved to a city for an undetermined amount of time, but I am doing it again. The time to leave China has come, and although the past 10 or so months have been really good here I am glad to be going back to the States. This has been my fifth time to China, and third time living here. I have been bouncing around for the past few years and I feel it’s time to grow some roots. Now only if I could decide which city that should be. One thing I do know is that it will be in America. Home sweet home.

Hipstamatic iPhone App

Although I wish they would have chosen a different name, the Hispamatic iPhone app looks very well done. It’s yet another camera app that creates analog looking photos taken from your iPhone and has a wide variety of lenses, films and flashes that you can purchase to create different effects. For $1.99 it looks pretty great.

The Documentary Blog has named my friend Michael Stephenson’s documentary, Best Worst Movie, number three on their list of top ten documentaries of 2009.

They also mentioned this documentary called RiP: A Remix Manifesto which I would love to check out.

Best Trips - 2009

I traveled more this year than any other, and I hope this trend continues throughout my life. The people you meet and the experiences you have while traveling are invaluable. From being attacked by monkeys in Vietnam to DJing in Tokyo I had some pretty interesting travel experiences in 2009… here are my favorite.

KP’s Best of 2009

This year has gone by quickly and not so quietly. It has been a year of travel, and one of those years where I have spent the majority of the year outside the United States. It has also been a year of learning, growing, loving and lots and lots of playing. This is the last year of my 20’s and the decade has treated me well. It makes me a bit sad to think I am headed into my 30’s next year. I feel the days of being occasionally irresponsible and staying out all night are numbered. I hope that when I look back at my 20’s I can say I made the most of those years. I know I can look back at the year 2009 and say without a doubt that it was a good one and I made the most of it. This week I will be posting my thoughts and memories of the best of the year 2009. Here I am starting off with what I feel to be the best albums of the year. Read after the jump…

Ghostly 110 Best Albums

It’s that time of the year when everyone compiles their lists of the best and worsts of the year, and it being the end of the decade Ghostly International has compiled their favorite albums of the last ten years. I myself agree with at least 75 percent of their selections, and there are some I haven’t heard and will now check out.

As I have in the past I will try to compile my own list of best and worsts for this year. Until then I will be posting other’s lists that I respect and agree with. Stay tuned.

Tokyo Recap

Tokyo Train Station

At the beginning of this month I left Shanghai for Tokyo for a nine day adventure with my friend Eli Smith of So Sweet Records. Tokyo was the last stop on his tour through Asia and Australia and he invited me to DJ at show with him at a club called Trump Room. I had never been to Japan so obviously I jumped at the chance.

The trip ended up being lots of long days and long nights. Trying to fit in as much of what Tokyo has to offer in eight nights/nine days can prove to be exhausting. One of my favorite things we did was spending a day at Oedo Onsen in Obaiba (wikipedia link for those of you who don’t know what an onsen is).

Big thanks to Tomo of So Sweet Japan for letting us crash in your tiny little apartment!

Above is a video from the show at Trump Room. I will post more as they are uploaded. Check out more photos on Flickr.
